The opening of the long planned exhibition of Fearnan’s past in photographs, maps and documents will be held on Saturday 16 October at 2pm in the McLean Hall. It will be opened by Shenac Kelloe, former owner of the Tigh an Loan Hotel.
Ian McGregor of Fearnan Village Association told Comment: “The interest shown in this, and the help given to it by the residents of Fearnan, Killin, Kenmore, Aberfeldy and beyond has made this a really worthwhile project and anyone interested is invited.”
Photographs at the exhibition show images from prehistoric times up to the present day. The maps and documents, some of which came from as far as the University of California, give a picture of what life was like over the last three centuries and show the efforts made to improve agriculture and living standards in the 18th century.
Ian continued: “The bridges over the Lyon and Tay were not constructed until the latter part of the 18thcentury and that had a significant bearing on Fearnan’s importance and its development. Even recently the items found from the Oakbank Crannog, Fearnan, were used in the crannog built at Kenmore, not one at Fearnan.”
He added: “Inevitably there are gaps in the records which might be filled by further research. However the loss of the Fearnan school records is a serious one.”
