Fortingall Summer Exhibition
Written by Editor
13 July 2011

Running from the end of July until 7 August the Fortingall Art 2011 Summer Exhibition features an impressive line-up of over 28 artists, well known in the area.  It includes painters, photographers, jewellers, a hot-glass artist, wood engravers and an internationally renowned silversmith.
This month’s article features ‘The Splinters’ - a group of artists who meet once a month to practise wood engraving. The idea for the group arose in July 2009 when many of the group participated in the Hand Engravers Association Symposium,  hosted by Malcolm Appleby at Grandtully.  Two days of wood engraving workshops were led by local printmaker, Linda Farquharson. The obsessive nature of wood engraving led to the idea of holding regular meetings that are now attended by a core group from Highland Perthshire and Aberdeen. The Splinters first exhibited as a group alongside Malcolm Appleby at the 2010 Fortingall Art show. Our 2011 project is based on an alphabet of Scottish beasties ... expect an array of wonderful creatures, from Goats, Pinemartens, Eagles, Rooks and Vipers, to Midgies, Wasps and other archetypal Insects!
The exhibition will be opened by  Philip Archer, Principal of the Leith College of Art and immediate past  President of Visual Art, Scotland.
There have been over 340 entries for the Children’s Art Competition. As many as possible will be on display, and  the prize winners will receive their awards at the Opening Ceremony on Friday evening,  29 July.
This is an event which is too good to be missed,  so put the date in your diary & come to the Arts and Crafts,  Molteno Hall in Fortingall.  The exhibition is open from 10am to 6pm Saturday 30 July - Sunday 7 August. Any of the works of art may be purchased.
