The Blairgowrie taxi driver tells broadcasting his story

Talking about music to a friend of mine, I happened to mention that I sent record programmes to a group of ex-pats over in Spain and asked her if she would like to hear one. Having heard it she passed it on to her parents and the message came back “My mother thinks you should be on the radio.”
Some months passed than one day my friend handed me a copy of the local Blairgowrie paper which contained an article, sponsored by a local councillor, who had ideas about starting a radio station and was holding a meeting for anyone interested, the following week.
The meeting was well attended by all sorts of people with various interests but I believe I was the only incipient broadcaster there. It was agreed the next step would be to contact people who had started a station and ask their advice. A month or so later we met people from Heartland. That`s how I met Bruce Patterson.
The high cost of setting up a local facility killed off the idea of a station in Blairgowrie but at a subsequent meeting I chatted to Bruce and he invited me to visit Heartland. I was very impressed and said I would like to become involved so Bruce suggested I do a couple of demos. He seemed to like them and asked if I would like to make some programmes.
That was two years ago...
