Meet The Heartlanders: Steve McGraw - 'In His Own Words'
Written by Sub Editor

I started at Heartland in May 2010 lending a hand here and there, voicing some adverts and planning my own show. What I didn’t expect was to be hosting the breakfast show 4 hours a day for two weeks while Bruce Patterson was away.
Timing is everything, I suppose. I won’t claim those two weeks were all smooth-sailing but I really enjoyed myself - and the regular listeners seemed not to mind my interrupting their morning routines. A few months later I’m now doing the 2-4pm slot during the week - ‘Stevie’s Alive in the Afternoon’ - and ‘The Pulse’, my Saturday night show about emerging and unsigned Scottish Indie/Punk/Rock bands, has been going for 4 weeks.

Streaming Radio
I had a brief stint in radio 10 years ago, which ended badly, so it feels great to have an opportunity to do what I love doing once again. One of the most exciting things about working for Heartland FM just now is that we are online streaming. Friends of mine, and complete strangers, are listening to our shows all over in the world. It adds a little bit of pressure, knowing that your audience may be a little less forgiving, but all the feedback we’ve received so far has been positive.
I love music. I particularly enjoy trying to find new bands who produce music that makes me tap my feet and what to turn it up. If playing those tunes can convey to the audience just a fraction of how much fun I’m having, then as far as I’m concerned that’s success.
I’ve worked many different jobs, in plenty of different places, but this is the most fun. That’s largely due to all the great people who are involved with Heartland at every level - and I owe them a lot of thanks.
