Running until 31 May at Birnam Institute is the first solo exhibition of photographs by Victoria Rastall. It features many images of the local area.
Titled ‘Capturing the Essence’ it is described by the artist as ‘an exploration of the world I work and live in, looking at what exactly draws our eye and how our brains process the image.
‘Amongst the landscape are smaller elements we may not even be aware exist, or how they fit together, but may be the key to the beauty of what we are looking at.’
As her explanation suggests, her work is predominantly landscape/outdoor photography.
Vic - as she prefers to be known - has lived in the Aberfeldy area for three years, and she works in outdoor education all over Scotland.
She told Comment: “I have spent a lifetime looking at landscapes from the tops of mountains down to the smallest flowers and have learned to see instinctively what works compositionally.
“Photography has always been an integral part of working and playing outdoors, both at home and abroad.
“I love to take advantage of my habit of exploring remote places to create beautiful images, always having a camaltera with me and occasionally a sketch book and pen.”alt
