Sixth Annual Modern Print Masters in Aberfeldy
Written by Sub Editor
28 August 2010

In Modern Print Masters, The Watermill Gallery, Aberfeldy, will present an outstanding and wide-ranging selection of limited edition prints. Now in its sixth year, the annual exhibition has established itself as an opportunity to see a combination of modern and contemporary art, housing the collection of prints on the top floor of the converted mill in Aberfeldy.
The exhibition will feature work by leading British post war artists such as Henry Moore and Patrick Heron, two ‘spin’ prints by Damien Hirst, a delicate lithograph by Henri Matisse and a series of affordable lithographs by Joan Miro. Bringing these artists together under one roof, and carefully introducing gallery favourites, gives the exhibition a breadth from ‘classic’ modern art through to work by ‘urban’ and contemporary Scottish artists.
The exhibition will feature a brand new print ‘Doonfeeny’ by Barbara Rae. Published this year by Peacock Visual Arts in Aberdeen, the print is a combination of collograph and etching, in classic Rae style, rich in colour and texture. Inspired by the artist’s many visits to the West of Ireland, this image was first realised in other mediums, and has now been created as a limited edition. The print will be available framed or unframed.
Alan Davie’s newest print ‘Grangemouth Image’ will show in the exhibition. The screenprint was produced at The Print Studio, Cambridge in edition of fifty to celebrate Davie’s 90th birthday and raise funds for an exhibition now running in Falkirk of his work.
Against the backdrop of Perthshire’s blazing autumn colours, Modern Print Masters has established itself as a key date on the calendar of many a collector and art-lover, and together with the coffee shop and the bookshop, will make for a great day out.
The exhibition will run from 25 September until 29 November
