The front page article in the July edition of Comment raises a number of interesting questions regarding the future of Highland Perthshire if it becomes squeezed between two expanding National Parks. Some Questions Discussion Needed Possible Expansion Impact Would an expanded LLTNP area reverse the declining fortunes of Aberfeldy? I would be interested in knowing how. How would a National Park make people stop in Aberfeldy if they were not in a mind to do so before? Would it have to be inside the park boundary to achieve this, or are we talking about an expanded caravan city on the perimeter? If inside, the current LLTNP area has to move over 25 miles east. This would then leave less than 20 miles to Blair Atholl and CNPA. Why not expand CNPA to Aberfeldy, it would be easier, physically and politically. I notice MP Pete Wishart talking about “Highland Perthshire” wanting to be part of Cairngorms National Park, although proposal to move boundary south actually takes in only a small % of Highland Perthshire. This consultation period is just beginning. Interesting to see where it goes, and do the politicians really know what they are letting themselves in for here?
